Wailoa River State Recreation Area lies in downtown Hilo between the city and the Pacific Ocean. Occupying the site of a section of Hilo that was destroyed in the 1946 tidal wave, Wailoa state park’s manicured grounds, beautiful ponds, and excellent pavilions make Wailoa State Park a favorite spot for residents to picnic, boat fish, relax and enjoy the scenery. You can find a boat ramp, picnic tables, restrooms and an information center here.
