In Sugar's heyday these two neighboring towns were
bustling with sugar workers patronizing stores, saloons, hotels and
theaters that lined the towns Main Street. In recent years, the two
town's restored historic buildings are once again bustling, this
time populated by an influx of homesteaders, artistsans and visitors
who ply the small restaurants, art galleries, and boutiques that
are located along the towns Main Street. Hawi and Kapa'au are great
spots to stop for lunch or to purchase picnic supplies on the way
to Majestic Pololu Valley that is located at the end of Hwy 270.
