Located a few miles from Pahoa on Highway 132, the Lava Tree State Park grants a cool respite to weary travelers under the park's magnificent canopy of towering Albezia trees. The park short loop trail allows visitors to view tree molds that were formed as molten lava cooled quickly around native Ohia trees leaving cylindrical columns of black lava that give the park its namesake.
