|
Nestled on coastal cliffs in a cool grove Ironwood pine trees, McKenzie
State recreation area provides picnic tables, restrooms, and camping
areas. A restored section of the Kings Highway trail system that
circumvented the island and was an important means the transportation
and communication in ancient Hawaii runs through the park is an archaeological
site worth checking out. Spectacular views of this rugged, picturesque
coastline and surrounding forest make McKenzie a great spot to watch
the sunrise, look for whales, or eat a relaxing lunch amongst the
cool trees. McKenzie State recreation area is located along the Red
Road (Hwy 137) between Isaac Hale Beach Park and Kalapana.
